should i swap suspected inaccurate gas meter for smart meter
I am in a dilemma as my current gas meter of 24 years I am wondering if it is over reading my gas due to the fact a 3 bed house is said to on average use around 16000 kwh per year, whereas my readings for past 10 years have been a lot higher sometimes as high as 53000kh, 41000khw. which seems very high in comparison. Recently I have cut my usage down to no more than 8 hrs a day in this cold spell at 17c and watched the meter. In just 4 hrs it clocks round 2 imperial units approx £3 in cost. Does that sound high for that short period of time? So if I had it on 24 hrs it would use 12 units £18 approx. I have been offered a smart meter to replace it but worried about the health risks radiation and other that is written about all over the net, should I be worried or should I just take their offer up of a new meter for peace of mind on the cost/usage side?

Any fears about radiation are completely unfounded and a load of rubbish put around by people who know nothing about them.
A smart meter uses the same technology as your mobile phone and is nowhere near as close to you as a phone is when it's up at your ear, in a pocket or even a handbag.
Your Wifi router, laptop, mobile phone, DECT phone and anything else with a wireless connection is squirting out significantly more radiation around your house or on your lap than any smart meter. They are also usually doing it continuously whereas a smart meter is doing it in short bursts.
There are other advantages in having a smart meter, you should get more accurate billing and in your case possibly significantly lower bills.
You've got to have a meter of some sort so why not a smart one. If you swap suppliers at a later date, even if they can't support the smart functionality it will still work as a dumb meter so there's really no reason at all for not having one.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
If you are convinced your meter is misreading then have it tested. Once it is removed, you will never know! Smart meters can also go wrong just as readily and probably more than dumb meters.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0
