Credit rating advise

My Girlfriend and I will have saved enough money for a deposit come May and also be debt free.

My girlfriend has no credit history apart from a phone contract which is now 4 months old.

We/she is considering applying for a credit card to spend about £10 each month on and pay off of to build a record. However we have also read that opening a new credit account so close to applying for a mortgage can badly effect your chances??

Any Advice gratefully received.

I don't think it would affect her ability to get a mortgage.

But I also doubt it will make much of a difference in terms of building up a credit history by then. If she applies now by May it would probably show 2 months payments.
