iPad mini - hardware fault

I bought an iPad mini from littlewoods in October 2013. Since November just gone it's been playing up. Doing things on it's own as if a poltergeist has taken over it. I rang apple and they suggested taking it to a store and them looking at it. I did this just before christmas and they said it was a hardware fault and if we had bought it from them, they would replace it there and then. I've contacted littlewoods and they don't want to know. I stated the consumer law and they have said it's down to the manufacturer to replace etc. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can move forward with this? Thanks in advance.

Well here's a start...
A short extract from MSE's Consumer Rights guide:
The rest of that guide is worth reading too.Know who's responsible
When returning items, beware shops trying the oldest trick in the book: saying they're not responsible for the shoddy goods and you must call the manufacturer. This is total nonsense!
If a company fobs you off by saying “go to the maker instead”, it's wrong. It's the retailer's job to sort it.
It doesn't matter if it's an iPod from a high street shop or a designer frock from a department store. If something's broken, torn, ripped or faulty, the seller has a legal duty to put it right as your contract is with it.0 -
As you have had it over 6 months its down to you to prove its an inherent fault and not either from miss use or fair wear and tear.
Put a complaint into Littlewoods, though their social media team will probably popup on here before too long, and see if you can get them to take your word for it being faulty but you may end up having to commission an independent engineers report on the cause of the fault0 -

Hi Zoe690_1,
We're really sorry to hear that your iPad Mini has developed this fault. We do provide the manufacturers helpline number for faulty electrical items as they can conduct technical troubleshooting and will be able to diagnose (and hopefully remedy) the fault.
Should the helpline not be able to help then we can take over from there.
If Apple, in this case, cannot help then please email us at Help@Littlewoods.co.uk and we'd be happy to look into this for you.
(Unless the iPad has been possessed by a poltergeist in which case you may have to contact Ghostbusters.
)
Many Thanks
Dave

Well I have a case number of apple and they said they would have replaced it there and then had we purchased it through them. I have made contact with littlewoods again via email this time. I'm not sure how far I will get. If it's not resolved however, I won't be spending a penny more buying goods from littlewoods as they have already had thousands off me in the past!!0

So I do as they ask and this is littlewoods reply;
Thank you for your email,
Unfortunately we’re not able to deal with your query. This is due to the account not being in your name and also we would need the email to come from the registered account holders email address. If you would like to ask the account holder to please email us directly we will be able to help.

Did you make the purchase, or did someone else make the purchase on your behalf?I bought an iPad mini from littlewoods in October 2013.
Any seller, including Littlewoods, only has a contract with whoever bought the goods.
If that wasn't you, then they are within their rights not to discuss someone else's account details with you.
No... more than that... they have a responsibility to the account holder not to discuss the account with a third party.0
