Moral Dilemma

Hi
I work for an institution who charge staff £2 per day to park. Today I was unable to purchase a ticket for reasons I can go into if required but I was trying to keep it short.
Anyway the up shot is I received a parking charge notice, for £60/£100. I spoke to the attendants & they commented that when the ticket was placed they thought it was a bit strange as I had a pre-paid car park token visible in my ash tray.(You can buy them in advance in exchange for a parking ticket or pay on the day in cash-I always pay in advance).
I complained to the department who runs the car park but was told they needn't to make an example of bad payers.
My question is do I fight it? My reasons for not having a ticket are valid but as I work there should I stir up a potential hornets nest. The charge itself looks like it has been issued by the company I work for although it is on headed paper from a Norfolk parking company (I work in Ipswich). There is no attendant number provided in the box-does it matter?
I just don't know what is best, I only work part time & this charge has basically wiped out two days pay!
Any advice would be great-Many Thanks!
& now I realise I've spelt dilemma wrong & can't change it! tsk!-now altered thanks thingamaBob

Write to them, and see if you can get them to put that in writing. That would shoot down their case in seconds (don't tell them that though).
Which Parking Company is this?
Then have a read of the Newbies sticky thread at the top of this forum.Je Suis Cecil.0 -
Thanks I've read the sticky but it mainly relates to outside companies I think this has been self issued?
Also wondered whether £60 is a fair price when the daily charge is £2, but can't find information relating to this?
Any help gratefully received! There's nothing wrong with being green, all the best plants are!0 -
Whose name is on the signs in the car park?0

Of course you should fight it, you are not a bad payer, and anyway it is an unenforceable penalty, aimed at deterring others. You never know how far you can go until you go too far.0 -
As others have said, "Making an example" = Punishment/Deterrence = Penalty and there is no way for them to repackage that.
Besides, you can properly argue that you had paid and evidence of that was clear to the attendant (in the shape of the pre-pay token). The only thing that was missing was a ticket and that is a simple proof of payment in exactly the same way as the token is. Consequently, they have suffered no loss other than that they have brought on themselves by issuing the PCN.
Agreed. Don't even think of paying nor even making an offer to settle if it ever gets that far (I don't say that lightly). My very sincere apologies for those hoping to request off-board assistance but I am now so inundated with requests that in order to do justice to those "already in the system" I am no longer accepting PM's and am unlikely to do so for the foreseeable future (August 2016).
For those seeking more detailed advice and guidance regarding small claims cases arising from private parking issues I recommend that you visit the Private Parking forum on PePiPoo.com0 -
so , is it NPE or NTC ?0

The company on the ticket is Norfolk Traffic Control.
Looking at the website you can have this self issue parking tickets system where the company who owns the car park can issue the ticket themselves.
As mine was issued 15 minutes after I left my car & the attendants told me to go to see the department concerned & they would waive it for me I'm guessing this is the system my institution are using.
The guidelines here say there is no point defending a ticket based on mitigating circumstances, so what would be my defence?
Ridiculously upset by this feels horrible to be treated this way by the people you work forThere's nothing wrong with being green, all the best plants are!0 -

and who is it saying this £60/£100 charge should be paid to?
The truth is you will be paying Zero, however the advice may vary depending on who has issued the illegitimate chargeFrom the Plain Language Commission:
