pumping up the sound on MP3 player??

I have a cheapo MP3 player which I only use when I am running or at the gym. The music I have on it is downloaded from the net so it may not be brilliant to start with. I have bought new headphones and there is a new battery in as well so its not that. I dont want to deafen myself just want it a bit louder than it is. Is there any way I can do this?

You could get some isolating headphones...might not actually *be* louder, but will seem louder as they cut out all the other noise...

I have these (I think) and they sound pretty good...

These, however, take some getting used to, especially for gym use.

The other option is to get some kinda mini-headphone amp (have seen them in the past) - but this means carrying another little box around the gym

Or, finally, you could try and get hold of some free software to make all of your MP3s "louder" - will probably completely wreck any sound quality though...

one thing i have found with the inside-the ear 'bud' type earphones is that they fall out of my ears, and other people's too, even the ones that have 3 sizes. I bought some fom argos and my ears are just the wrong shape for them and they kept falling out. Luckily i was still in the shop and they agreed to refund even though i had broken all the packaging, so try a friends before you go for these just in case.
Re the mp3 player, if i turn mine up to even 3/4 volume it is absolutely deafening! are you sure it isn't your ears lol, failing that it must be a very cheapo one. it would cost less to buy a new one these days than to get the earphones on a rubbishy model player (argos were doing some good deals if you needed one asap) you can get mp3 players now from a tenner upwards on the high street, if it was me i'd just buy a new one for the same price as a half decent pair of earphones

  • Id recommend making the mp3 louder.

Google mptrim :) Nice easy to use free prog that does it.

Also try MP3Gain, it allows you to adjust the volume and also allows you to equalise the volume on all your MP3s. That way MP3's from different sources aren't at different volumes when you listen to them.
It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die

thanks for all the replies. I will have a look at that MP3gain tonight.

the player I have is only a month old. It was 17.99 from my memory and they still have them in so it was cheap but not like a throwaway. No- its def not me ears (ha ha no pun inteneded there!) It may be the tracks. I shall download from a cd and see if the vol is any different there I think. Will also have a look at my download settings if there are any anywhere to see if I can do anything that way
