I'm selling my house. Then for a year or so will be living in various self catering places - 2 weeks here, 3 weeks there.
I want to maintain a postal address. What is the easiest way to do that?
My problem is how I stand regarding bank accts, credit cards, doctors, etc and things where I might need to state an address.
After a year I will be buying but it is the interim period.
Hope someone can help here as this doesn't really fit elsewhere.
Many tx for any ideas.

Could you have a "c/o address" that you give for contact with people/organisations that demand a fixed address?
Then give the address of a trusted relative/friend as that c/o address...
I guess the other possibility is to set up a mail forwarding system with the Post Office for mail for the next year to go to your old address and the Post Office forwards it onto you? (but the snag to that is the standard "British inefficiency" might mean they didn't do that as per instructions.....yep....been there/done that and came on the receiving end of that inefficiency).0 -
Can you ask a family member to use their address?
Also dont forget to use the post forwarding with the post office to that address.
A family member of mine is moving abroad for an indeterminate period of time, may be a year or so or could end up longer. They still have property in the UK that is being rented out but have re-registered banks etc to their daughters address, that way there is a permanent address and if/when they do decide to come back to the UK they just change the addresses again, or if they decide to live abroad permanently they can then deal with the various banks as applicable.0 -
Further thought being = could you use a Post Office box number?0

Find a friend/relative who is willing to recieve your post, then set up the maximum term of Royal Mail Redirect (12 months). I believe they will let you renew it then, so you can get a maximum of two years, but you'd need to check.0

Many tx guys for the ideas. Sadly I have only one family member in the UK and I wouldn't want to go there.
But that triggered a thought that if I get a neighbour to do it I could probably get away without changing GPs. Doesn't worry me but my wife has ongoing drug needs well understood by her GP.
The perfect neighbour sadly lives in a council house and I'm sure she would be nervous of being accused of running a business from home or sub letting. But there are alternatives.
The PO Box might satisfy the bank and credit cards. After all after selling the house we will have a rather large deposit and no need to borrow
Cheers :beer:I believe past performance is a good guide to future performance :beer:0 -
You need to take into consideration that using someone else's address as your registered address may affect any benefit entitlements/single person council tax discount that the may be entitled to.0

If that doesn't work, there are firms that will hold and forward mail for individuals. Typically those who chose to sail around the world.
These folk will do it for a business so might also do it for an individual:
