Price change on uk holiday

Hi I'm after some advice I have had a holiday booked at a large house in the uk and have had to cans it I have lost the £300 no refundable deposit which I understand but in the t&cs I am still liable for the remaining cost !! Not happy but understandable . If the company resell it I don't have to pay the bill but if they don't I do . I have recently noticed though that they have actually changed the full price of the holiday on their website from £1750 (what I agreed to ) to £1350 . This is a new standard price for the 3 day break !! My question is do I now pay only £1050 or am I still expected to pay the remaining £1450 !! Break was taken in the May bank holiday so hopefully it will sell on but if not I am going to be left with a bill more than a new booking would cost !!!!!!! Help help help I'm Ill with worry as this was a large group break and I've been left with the bill ..........

Legally penalty clauses under English law are illegal and so all they can charge you is their actual financial losses due to your breach of contract. Assuming they dont manage to secure another booking its unlikely that their losses are the full invoice costs as they wont have to pay for cleaners/ electricity/ gas etc that you would have used and cost them had you been there.
Ultimately it will come down to a negotiation should it happen but hopefully they will let it again and so it becomes a non-issue. Technically again though if they do relet it then you would again only be covering their costs so if these are less than the £300 deposit then you should get a partial refund of this too.0
