I have never found any evidence they need to be.

Going independent is OK, but you will need paper evidence that everything fitted to the car meets the BMW specification and everything was carried out. This may need to be provided should you need to claim on a warranty and its very easy for main dealers to be awkward.

Goodwill payments towards any faults outside of the warranty period will also go out of the window.

Just had a read up on independents servicing your car and warranty claims. If you need to claim and they play funny !!!!!!s you may have to prove the correct oil was used.

For the sake of a couple of quid saving and to keep the anti corrosion warranty I'd use the main stealer.

The only way to know it has been done is to do it yourself. Independent or dealer service standards are appalling.

The block exemption is not as straightforward as some are led to believe.
The car should be serviced as per the manufacturer's schedule. So if the schedule says a software download/reset is included in a service then unfortunately the dealer will have the monopoly as most indies will not have access to the most up to date model specific software.
Keep it with the main dealer till the warranty expires. Any Mini dealer will do.
  • Also paint and bodywork warranties won't be covered unless the car is taken to the main dealers for inspections.

I'm surprised the OP wasn't given the option of a service pack, I thought most Mini owners had these as they are such good value.

Thank you Oddballjamie. You have reminded me that I am covered by TLC pack until April 2018:j. So maindealer it is and Leicester is closer x

I would love to do that! But I can only just about manage to check the oil, fill screenwash/petrol and check tyre air pressure, despite having taken a car maintenance course some years back. I know my limitations:o
