Paying money to solicitors

The time has come to pay our deposit and fees to the solicitors. The total of this is quite a large sum.
Can I do this via my normal online banking? Payments are normally done as faster payments then?

We did this last week, we're with Santander and are limited to £10k payments per day with online banking.
I went into branch and as long as it's less than £100k they will arrange a free faster payments transfer, above this amount they would charge for a CHAPS payment. I needed my bank card, photo id and obviously payment details.
I know that my Natwest account allows me to make payments up to £20k online (per day) so it obviously varies between banks.0 -

Yes, but the limits vary from bank to bank - you might need to go through extra security over the phone, for example.0 -
and remember Faster Payments are not guaranteed same day (though usually are instant), so if the money must be there same day, use CHAPS0

Some banks allow you to do both CHAPS and Faster Payments transfers online. Others require you to call or go to a branch for CHAPS. I have used FP to transfer money to a solicitor for a house purchase before, but several working days before the deadline - as G_M says you should not rely on it arriving immediately.Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
On a rotating plate, with spikes like Flash Gordon
And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning0 -
Call up your bank and tell them what you need to do, they are used to making these types of transfers.0

Lloyds Banking Group (Halifax, Lloyds bank and Bank of Scotland) have allowed me to transfer just under £30k online through Faster Payment. Iirc anything above £30k requires a branch visit to verify your ID. Subsequently to CHAPS a payment I would have had to go into branch.
As said different banks different limits. Give them a call

We are with Halifax, I checked their max online payment limit and it is £25k which is fine for us. Going to transfer it online in the morning0
