Criteria For The Disability Element of JSA

What is the criteria?
I use to have a friend who was disabled who had JSA with income-support top up. No DLA or kids.
So was wondering if a person can get the disability premium who are not getting DLA? I assumed a person getting DLA would be on ESA (for sickness/disability unable/unfit to work) if they was getting DLA. But some mental disabilities mean a person won't get DLA but still need more than £70 a week to live on.

People can get DLA and JSA togther- you can have a disability &'also b fit for work.
I think disability premiums are usually only awarded if another disability bebefit is in payment0 -

if they decide that you aren't disabled enough for DLA, then they don't see you at any disadvantage when it comes to employment i'm afraid.
as for your friend receiving a disability premium on JSA without receiving DLA/PIP ...
it just wouldn't happen.
disability premiums are only ever paid if a disability benefit is also in payment0 -

Err - no.
The only long-term rate to WTC disability element is DLA/PIP.
Because ESA (or other out-of-work benefits) cannot be claimed alongside WTC, after 28 weeks from the end of ESA and start of WTC, the disability premium element stops applying.0
