And the results are in! Drum roll please.....

Vitamin D deficiency! I need to see my doctor some time next week, although the doctor who called me assured me it wasn't anything to worry about. My GP just wants to run through the Vit D issue, explain what this is and try and see what could be causing the symptoms I'm having (as all my tests other than this one came back okay).

    So relieved!

    I won't be googling "reasons for vitamin D deficiency"...too much :p
  • Hurrah!

Actually this prompted me to remember my GP surgery calling me about my smear test and to call them back asap. This was a voicemail while I was at a conference abroad and I was just waiting to hear the results back from my recent smear so I was in a bit of a flap about it. Called them back in a panic (making me late for a session I really wanted to go to) only to find out that they just had my (entirely normal) result and wanted to quiz me about why I chose to have it done at the family planning rather than with them. I was not pleased!

The other side is also frustrating: having blood tests because you feel like death warmed over and being told everything is normal and the doctor doesn't want to see you. I still wanted to see her!

  • I went to see a my doctor on Tuesday for the flu and mentioned thatI've had 3 other colds over the last 8 weeks, she said that there's nothing she can prescribe to me but she'll refer be to a walk in blood test cent. So I went to the blood test centre and they took 3 samples on the Tuesday.
I just called up the surgery to make sure they have up to date contact details for me because I've probably been there twice in the last 15 years or so.
My main concern is that the reception said my results had arrived but my doctor won't be available until the 8th March, I asked if another doctor could tell me and she said no. I'd like to know if I had something serious like HIV would I still have to wait until the doctor came back.

I'm just really concerned because I never have so many colds in such a short period of time.

  • I'm angry because I was called by a receptionist who couldn't give me any further information but also called me at a time where I couldn't speak to anybody who could. Why not call me in the morning when I can speak to my GP who can elaborate?

I don't know how your doctor works, but if we want to talk to a doctor. we have to call the surgery after the morning rush period, and request a call back from the GP.
As it is after morning surgery it is usually 1-2 pm before one gets a call back.
The receptionist was probably just doing as told..ring this person and ask them to make an appt.
As another has posted , if there was something wrong you would have had a GP themself call you.
Or the receptionist would have said can you come down later today please.
Anything less than that is nothing to worry about.
