How long for new pin?

Lost my debit card a week ago, rang bank cancelled card, New card arrived. All ok. Still waiting for new pin. Rang bank at weekend as pin still not arrived. New one issued and sent, but still waiting.
How long is reasonable to wait? Co op bank.

about 7 days max, may not of been sent yesterday, might of been sent today if you rang at weekend.

Thanks, it's 7 days since I first cancelled it, they seem to think first pin lost in post, will just have to wait I guess.

Did you request a new pin when your ordered your new card?

If you didn't then it wont arrive in the post you just use the pin number you had with your previous card!!

No sorry that's not what they told me, as the card was lost I had a new card and number

Does your bank allow you to recover the PIN online? With AmEx you can see your PIN by logging in and going through extra security

Really? That doesn't seem very secure. In my 20 odd years working with PINs I never worked on a system in which the PIN was held in any form.

Its as secure as online banking is, how secure is that? You can also retrieve your pin on the capital one credit card site when you log in, it just asks you a few more security questions then lets you see it.

Similar with Barclays debit card though you also need your mobile to complete the process. http://ask.barclays.co.uk/help/day2day_banking/forgot_chip_pin

Given that many banks can send you a PIN reminder rather than just set you a new PIN then clearly many banks do have your pin stored in their system.

As others have pointed out above, many other card issuers follow AmEx and also allow you to recover your PIN online so perhaps is more a question of how many different system you worked on in those 20 years?

I suspect that many people's online banking allows them to do bigger things than what can be achieved simply by having someone else's PIN, particularly those with fobs as access control (eg HSBC)
