Co op Bank Think I May Have Changed My Identity
SEPS
Drove 8 miles to nearest branch to perform a transaction on a savings account originally set up with Britannia
First off cashier wanted me to confirm my address - no problem
Next was informed that the account was now dormant despite a transfer of monies in within the last two month. Completed a form which was basically me writing out my address again. Then asked for verification of address. I produced my driving licence but at that point the manager/ supervisor was called and went off with licence to check its validity. Do banks have access to DVLA records or via a third party like Experian?
Account was then made active.
However still could not make the transaction - computer required another form of identification - passport, utility bill or similar!. Manager/supervisor called again. I pointed out that I had held the account for over 30 years and surely the bank knew this customer by now.
Ah but sir you might have changed your identity!
Me - lost for words, end of discussion, computer say no, please come back with additional identification.
And the transaction I trying to make was to withdraw c£4k to close the account.

How would you have felt if they had not undertaken any checks and somebody else had walked away with your £4k?0
