Permitted Work and Sickness

Hi,
I'm unsure I'm posting in the correct place here - apologies if not.
A friend of mine is on ESA and has recently started doing 16 hours per week permitted work, however, he has recently had to go 'off sick' from the permitted work and hasn't been able to work since November.
His 'employer' is asking for a sick note / fit note, does my friend have to provide one? I thought the ESA was evidence that he was sick?
Thank you

I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

Yes, his employer can ask for a med cert. This can be a copy of the one he sends to the DWP (if he still does?).0

Proving your entitlement to ESA is different from proving illness to an employer.
You can be entitled to ESA for things that are quite irrelevant to your employer - for example being unable to raise both arms so as to place either hand in an upper shirt pocket.0 -
Why wouldn't he provide one? Or has he simply not bothered going to the doctors?Hi,

At first sight it does seem strange the somebody on ESA would need to provide a sick note to an employer but, as others have said, the employment and ESA aren't directly related.
Whether the GP would be willing to provide one cert for ESA and one with a different incapacity for the employer, assuming the reason for being off work isn't the same as for claiming ESA, is a different matter.0 -
is he working exactly 16 hours a week?
ESA permitted work rules state that the claimant must be working LESS than 16 hours0
