Password Managers

I've got a pretty big head but I'm having trouble getting all my passwords & usernames in there. I'm having more trouble getting the right ones out again. I know all you techy types store your passwords in some secure digital hidyhole somewhere - which ones do you use? What are the pros & cons? With some banks I have to jump through three hoops to get in, does one store all these passwords/usernames/confidential facts in one place, secured by one master password?

Please be gentle, all I know about computers is how to press all these buttons & where to put the coal when the steam pressure drops.
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.

I've used Lastpass for years. I store everything in there, including card info, PINs etc. It's just not practical to memorise everything, I must have about 500 different website logins alone. Everything is encrypted end to end which means that without your master password even Lastpass themselves can't access your information. Nothing is 100% secure but in convenience vs security as cloud synced password manager like Lastpass for me wins out. I don't know what my actual passwords are, they're all random generated very long mix of characters. I only memorise my master password.

If you're really worried about it not being secure enough you can enable two factor authentication so you require something else to login as well as your password, such as Google Authenticator app installed on your phone.

Alternatives are Dashlane, Roboform, 1Password. Or something like Keepass which is only an application and if you want to sync the data you do it yourself with something like Dropbox. But I prefer using the convenience of syncing Lastpass to all my browsers and devices.

    I use keepass

    http://keepass.info/

Versions for Windows, Android, more or less everything else too.

Obviously you have to make sure you don't forget your master password!

If you have Apple then I recommend 1Password.

I would definitely use a Password Manager. Even though some of the paid apps appear to be quite expensive you can often find them reduced. It's a category of product that once you start using ,it suddenly clicks why they get consistently high app store reviews.

I use RoboForm with two factor authentication enabled connected to an email address that is effectively a bunch of random numbers and letters @ a personal domain and is only used for RoboForm.

Tried most of them, but, Lastpass always wins out...I don't think I'd manage to keep up without it...

I've used Lastpass for ages now, without it i'd be lost.

Another vote here for LastPass. I know it's trustworthy, but I don't store bank details in it, I memorise them seperately. My paranoia.

Chrome browser can keep passwords for you, but importantly it syncs them too, so I can access a site on my laptop, desktop, phone and tablet without rekeying.
  • Another Lastpass vote from me. Very useful now it is available as iOS app too

I use Firefox master password for everything that's not money related, for everything else I go by memory.

I don't trust ANY program or app to store financial related passwords.
