  • Used watering can of luke warm water for 30+ years and no the screen has never cracked.

Yep, another lukewarm water user here. I just switch the electric kettle on for about 60 seconds.

If I leave early when everyone else in the road is still asleep, then I just sit in the car, turn the music up and play with my phone while the car warms itself up because I'm an !!!!!!.

  • Come out the house, start the car, put the heater on full etc and go back inside and finish my cup of tea, drive to work.

That'll be fun if you ever have to tell your insurer that story.

I don't think the physics behind it were ever in doubt, were they?

I agree, but some people still put it to the test on their windscreens!

Ditto. But only ten years. I used cold to luke-warm tap water and it works fine without the risk associated with hot-boiling water!

It's by far the quickest way that I've found... There is one downside. Once it's colder than about -10 out, the water running off the car freezes on the drive before you leave, creating sheet ice patches.

never had any ice per se (as in compacted snow). But I've had some light frost on the windscreen. I just scraped it all off using my nectar card-

In the bad winter of 2010/11 it was -20C and I used tepid water and the screen went. So it does happen.

The trouble was the screen had a very very small crack and it just opened it up until it got to the edge.

Just don't use a blow torch to try to unfreeze your locks, especially if you have (had) an Audi 80 with door cards that don't seem to contain a fire retardant.
