Barclaycard Default

Just had an alert on my credit file and checked today to find that Barclaycard have reported a default on my file from back in April due to late payment. Technically this is correct but they received the money the day after the payment date and charged £12 late payment fee as well!!
My problem for leaving it late to organise payment over the bank holiday weekend but is there any way to attempt getting the default removed?
Spoke to their customer services dept today and the lady fresh from charm school informed me they could not.
Or do you think it would be best to go down the line of reclaiming the charge and would this result in automatically removing the default?
Any advice appreciated.
