Best way to move to different email address

Hi - am moving my brother off AOL dial up onto another broadband ISP but he has an AOL email address so what's the best way to go about creating a new email address for him (eg yahoo or google) or can/should he stay with AOL? Don't want to tie him into a specific ISP in case he moves again. tks Dave

I'd sign him up for googlemail account, bags of space and loads of other useful things available once you have a google account. Personalised homepage, docs and spreadsheets, page creator, browser sync, photo store, to name a few.

You will probably be able to set up a forward from his AOL email to have his mail forwarded for the time been but it is likely once he closes the account they will remove the email address then there isn't much you can do. Best thing you can do is go through all old emails, or places signed upto making sure they all have new address before it closes

  • I left virgin.net about ten years ago, and I still use my virgin.net email address, no problems. I wouldn't suggest this works with all providers, maybe you could email AOL customer support and ask what happens to the address.

judderman62 - Thinking about Force 9 as I've been with them a couple of years and apart from a few glitches on line speed recently they've been fine. He's also a long way from an exchange (so slow speed) and will just be surfing not downloading much. So their £9.99 a month package with no contract, £40 set up and cheap extra download bandwidth sounds good.

blimey that sounds decent indeed - check min contract too in case he has any problems he can bale quickly.

There was a thread on here that mentioned adsl24 and having spent time in their forums I am definitely moving there if I can ever get my mac off the cowboy gangsters I am currently with - they are almost 4 times beyond the time frame that OFCOM require - going to report 'em to OFCOM in next few days.:eek:

The MD of ADSL24 participates in the forums and the feedback is superb - package I will prob go for is £20 a month - free to migrate

AOL do free email now, so Id have thought that he could keep the old email address and just switch ISP. Youd be best to contact their customer service to check though.

    Free AOL Email.

Zagu is correct. I switched from AOL recently and moved a lot of my archived e mails over to another account before the switch. I was then surprised to receive an e mail from AOL to say that my e mail account with them would continue. Useful for any contacts that I had forgotten to inform.
