hey guys
i love this site!, i use it all the time and appreciate everything that goes on. its already saved me a fair few quid!.
So on with my 1st post!
Today i finished work to come home and be greeted by a typical bill looking envelope. opened the letter up to find its from scottish widow, my 1st concern as i personally have never had any contact with the company in my life, but upon reading the letter i found it was a bill dated from the day i bought my house, up until the day i changed providers.
now, when i bought my house, i spent the 1st 6 months ripping the hell out of it, back to brick, therefore clearly i was not living in the property, so use of gas and electric was minimal.
long story short, i eventually got round to sorting out my own supplier and awaited the bill. obviously after so long i forgot about the entire thing!, with no communication from either supplier, i assumed it was been sorted out.
the bill today made my eyes water.....£1120!!!
. a massive unexpected bill for me. now its not the end of the world. but obviously its an issue.
upon closer inspection, the bill i recieved is all estimated. from the 1st reading to the last, dated may 18th 2014.
now these reading dated may are fractionally higher than the readings i sent to my current supplier just the other day!
my house has been fitted with low energy everything. im a electrician so my aim was to make my bills the minimum i could when i did my house up.
the problem is....and theres always a problem, i dont have the readings from when i 1st moved in, and its the classic excuse/reason, i noted then on my phone, and now that phone has had its memory removed......
i am just looking to know what i can do to just pay for the units i have actually used, as clearly these estimates are far higher than the actual readings they should have. is this common procedure? this is not something ive ever had to deal with. So im looking for abit of advice/points that i should/could need to look out for so im not been robbed by the higher powers that be!
thanks
phil

Welcome to the forum.
Letter from Scottish Widows;)
As you changed suppliers on 18th May you must have given the new supplier your meter readings or the switch would(should) not have gone ahead. The gaining supplier must give the meter readings to the losing supplier(Scottish Power) and they must agree the reading, so I cannot see how the end reading of Scottish Power was estimated.
However estimated or not, that end reading must be exactly the same as the start meter reading used by your new supplier.
Your only hope is that the Estimated end meter reading from Scottish power is higher than the start meter reading with your new supplier.
It would appear that you have paid for some of the previous occupant's consumption with Scottish Power.
Presumably that occupant didn't bother giving a final meter reading to Scottish power, and sadly neither did you; so both of you got an account based on estimated readings; his end reading and your start reading
The previous occupant is unlikely to cough up more money if contacted, so it seems you have little chance of getting anything back.0
