Moving to Tonbridge?

Thinking of moving to Tonbridge and buy a house there. Any local knowledge/ advice, especially areas to avoid?
I am aware that the town was very badly flooded in the recent past, so avoiding any house near the river, but any more help would be greatly appreciated.
Of course, it would help to rent first, but financially that wouldn't work for me unfortunately. I could ask local AE, but I don't really trust them.

Easier commute to London, at affordable price, with decent schools.
Other areas we rejected are either too expensive for us, take too long to reach London, or don't have good rated schools. It is all down to budget unfortunately.0 -
Hi Car0line, I live not too far away from Tonbridge and it was one of the areas that I had been looking at whilst I've been house hunting.
I would say look at South Tonbridge over North. There are a few roads behind the station area that would be the better options if you are looking to really target to certain areas, such as Sussex Road.
It really depends on your budget. Anything under 250k and you won't be getting any of the more desirable places. That is certainly my experience, although I was also looking through November/December so I could have been battling the lull also.
Good luck and feel free to ask if you have any other questions on the area0 -

Thank you so much.
I am wondering what are the bad areas, rough and with problems.
I have moved a bit blindly in the past, just driving around to judge the areas, and it always worked out well, but I did not have kids then, so I am worried about moving them into a bad neighborhood.0 -

To be honest while I was looking I didn't fall in love with Tonbridge as a whole, and have ended up buying in a village on the outskirts. But I had no need to be near the rail links. IMO I would say try and avoid the Shipbourne Road area of Tonbridge and the parts that branch off it. Look up Judd School and Tonbridge Girls Grammer on maps and try to base your search in the surrounding areas.0
