  • Sounds like the 'recon' engine wasn't actually re-conned, any half decent place would've replaced the belts.

Even the supposedly troublesome cars last a lot longer if they are serviced properly.

A reconditioned engine thet didnt come with a new timing belt? I presume a replacement used engine not reconditioned?

Sounds like Gunk, jetwash, coat of black engine paint, doesn't it?

If that. Im thinking breakers engine yanked from a pile of untested ones. Jetwashed and sat in front of the gas heater for a bit to dry it out and then fitted.

Mondeo Estate would get my vote. Large, cheap and reliable.

Passat estate would also do the job

I have heard other stories about zafiras dying young. If it's not true, I I'll probably just get another one.
I have a 2002 zafira petrol which passed its mot last month. I thought it had died last year due to smoke coming out of the exhaust caused by not adding oil to it!!! But my mechanic added an additive of some sort for a tenner. I kept driving it and now there is no more smoke and it passed the test so happy days. I am saving for a newer car though when this one finally claps out. 13 years is good so far though, has anyone an older 7 seater still going strong, would love other recommendations for when it is time to buy again. Does anyone like the Citroen c4 grand Picasso ? I do like the zafira but fancy a change after 13 years :)

Old age isn't bad when you consider the alternative.
