As I see it the issue you have is proving that it is a structural issue?
It is a design fault yes but structural issue, I am not sure it is.
How many of you abut this lift shaft and do you all have a problem with it.
I would have thought that you would have known that this was the case when you purchased it so' buyer beware' may come into it.

Revisit an acoustic consultant and ask if they would provide design advice, if you would still like to remain at the property. If you're going down the solicitor route you could surely add all this onto costs incurred to be reclaimed? Your builders has of course tried his best, but the acoustic consultants are specialists who can take further measurements and model the room and the sound. My partner is a consultant in Norwich

The trouble is, I can't see what the solution is. The seller clearly knew about the problem and failed to disclose it. What redress would you like to achieve? Even if he bunged a couple of grand to xael the problem would still exist.

I've read through the comments and most of the things I would have said have already been mentioned. The only thing I can think to add is, if the flats do not have many floors could you bring this up with the owner as being a serious noise pollution issue and possibly have the lift shut down? If there are other tenants that this is affecting then maybe you could start a petition for this to happen? Obviously if the building has lots of floors it's a no go, but if not then it's worth a shot. I really hope you get this sorted. I bought my first property in Dec 14 and I would be devastated if something like this happened to me. 0
