Scottish Power

Hi, I am administering this electricity account on behalf of my Mum in law. She had been turning her heating down as she felt she could not afford the heating bills. I asked to see her latest bill, the bill was for 1 year and because she was paying weekly the paperwork was tremendous, complicated, and I could not reassure her that all was well. I resolved to get her an online account and have monthly meter readings with bills showing how much she was paying in and how much electricity she is being charged for. I also changed her to a monthly direct debit from my bank account. What a sorry saga I have had over the last three months. 1) they kept taking £18 per week despite having agreed £60 per month. Then they took £60 per week instead of per month, then they did not take anything at all. In trying to resolve this I have had numerous phone calls and E-mails with little confidence that they have now got the correct instructions. The above pails into insignificance when it comes to getting or understanding the bills. I have three bills to date covering part of 2013, all of 2014, up to January 4th this year. The balance from the 1st bill does not match the opening balance of the next bill, the amount of money paid into the account does not match what has actually been paid in. Ie the last bill states only £60 paid in during a three month period when there has actually been £186 paid in. When I question this I get a rather vague sentiment that it is corrected in (adjustments) I have tried to work out there adjustments and it just does not add up. When I try to get monthly bills you would think they were in the dark ages and still relying on typewriters to produce bills.
This is a sorry state of affairs for a company that has Scottish in there name, and no wonder I moved away from them over 10 years ago for my own account. If I could i would move my Mum's account too, but she has a specific type of meter that only Scottish power deal with.

    Welcome to the forum.

Scottish power have installed a new computer system and overnight their accounting has become a disaster area.

Loads of threads and articles about this, and ofgem involved.

If it is any consolation your frustration with SP is shared by many.

To add insult to injury, their once competitive tariffs have vanished for new customers - and those whose fixed tariffs are ending.

Welcome to Scottish Power -- the world's most incompetent energy supplier. Make sure the reading on the last bill is close to the actual reading used. I suggest setting up a simple spreadsheet with payments and charges set out in an easily identifiable form.
