Brown nosing

Does cringeworthy sucking up on posts (blog posts too, but usually Facebook) work?

The amount of people who share when not asked or hinted at, then say they've shared and would love to win *insert prize here* because it would make their 1 month old baby twins happy, and they've been shopping with their amazing company their entire life, is insane.

Do you have more chance if you suck up to them, or tell a sob story?! Are plain old "WIN" commenters never going to have a look in?

Having run a few FB competitions for my company, I couldn't careless what people actually write in the comments. As long as they've commented I'll just copy and paste all the names into a random selector. I have never paid any attention to what they have typed.

i often wonder the same thing as there are a couple of people on FB who do it and it really gets on my tits
  • If the company follow their own rules and pick someone randomly as they often state they will then everyone should have the same chance ... however in my experience the majority of companies usually do pick someone who compliments them or says they have a 'reason' for wanting to win the prize (i.e. their mum's best friend's niece's babysitter really deserves this iPad Air because her goldfish drowned and it'd cheer her up...) ;)
Fave wins: PS4 :heart2: Samsung S6 smartphone :heart2: £2500 Take A Break :heart2: Meet & greet with The Saturdays and £1000 of Swarovski jewellery :heart2: Weekend in Barcelona :heart2: Holiday to Peurto Rico :heart2: 4 night stay in Lake District
  • Even if companies state you must like & share their page or post etc.

I just write "liked & shared" on the comp post (without actually liking the page or sharing the post) and I have won a few times.

I don't think the company can even find out who likes their page anyway, and didn't facebook make companies asking you to like their page against their terms & conditions recently ?
Yes, I know there is no "R" in the word dream in my username - it was setup in memory of my grandson :A

I thought they can see who likes and shares - because I can even see who does it

I think a fair few companies/competitions do pick their winners based on those who have done a bit of Brown Nosing as you put it. I've always thought Bloggers have that slight advantage getting picked sometimes too.

You can get a list of some of the likers. I was able to retrieve most of our 500 or so likers but its a bit of a pain to do. Facebook don't make it easy.

That USED to be case but you are allowed to now.

So not everyone has shared that says 'liked and shared' - and there's no way of telling if they've shared or not?

It always annoys me when you enter via an app, but people still comment "liked and shared". Surely if they are drawing a random winner from the app, it shouldn't make a bit of difference if somebody has liked or shared or commented?!

Yes it can be identified. Page owners can see if a person did actually share a post and if they liked the page. Whether those that run the competitions actually bother to check or not is another thing entirely!
