Book now or wait

Im looking for holidays for this August. Have found one I like through Thomsons to tenerife, but am wondering whether to book now, or wait til much nearer the time and get a last minute booking. Are there any bargains to be had if I wait? or should i just book knowing at least Ive got the hotel with good flights. decisions decisions.......

August, High season , School hols.
Are you prepared to go somewhere else?
If not ....... pop along to Thompson now.

Being married to a teacher, have had to book our choices way back in Oct/Nov for the past thirty years. Retiring this year....... the holiday scene has changed.

When my 14 year old eventually leaves education it will be holiday's when I want and at a fraction of the price, CANNOT. B. WAIT:j

OP I would book now if you're governed by school holidays, if not, I would take my chances and book a last minute deal, but this involves a risk that what you had in mind might or might not be available/go up in price etc. I've booked all my school holiday holidays already, less headache!

If you're happy with what you've found book it, last minute deals in august are few and far between you're normally stuck with whats left, rubbish flights and not really what you wanted. Have you looked to see if any other tour ops do the same hotel at a better price.

Also check the hotel on booking.com and prices on budget airline to see if that's significantly cheaper.

    book now!!!!!!
Live each day like its your last because one day you'll be right
  • we have just booked for September in Egypt 2 weeks ago). Since booking it the holiday has increased in price by £150.

Years ago we used to leave it until the last minute but probably for the last 5 years at least we have booked well in advance (8 - 12 months).

My wife has a habit of keep checking prices and since we have booked early all the holidays have increased in price the nearer it got to departure.

So my advice would be if you like what you see then book it

    I would book now.

I am a convert to ultra early booking now. I booked this summers holiday in early September last year!

Back then it cost me £1930 (including generous cashback) for TWO weeks.

Currently the last few rooms are at £2070 for ONE week.

My only regret was not booking the airport parking then, onsite at the airport it was only £39 for August, bargain with cashback on top. Its went up before I did it and now its at £71 even with a 10% code.

Next year 2016 is going to be a bit of a scrum fight as the school holidays in many areas go back to a late start & early return so the family window will be tighter and more tightly focussed on August. Definitely the year to get in early.

My experience of Thomson the last couple of years is that waiting just means the price goes up. Obviously there are many variables, but consider that capacity in the package holiday market is far far less than it used to be so last minute deals, although can still be had, the choices and bargains are much reduced.

It might be worth seeing if you can tie up a flight only with a budget or charter airline and book your hotel elsewhere and see if it comes out any cheaper. Obviously that won't work if your hotel is "Exclusive to Thomson/TUI".
  • Tenerife is ideal for our winter, why travel so far in the summer time when you can get a cheaper equally good holiday nearer to home. Try Costa Brava / Costa Blanca a lot cheaper.
