    That depends what you want to do. You will undoubtedly have to move eventually anyway and if the place is bad why not take the opportunity to go?

    But if you want to stay for the remainder of your contract you don't need to do anything.

    I think it maybe is time to move on and who knows maybe find somewhere better with decent landlords.


    The thing is though it is such an inconvenience as they have told me that they are having estate agents in within the next week or two then have potential buyers etc. In our contract it doesn't mention I have to do that. But it seems they don't see it as an inconvenience to me. It really was a case of we need you out, we are selling, cheers etc

    Change the locks forthwith! You never know what dodgey slumlords are going to do.

    Start looking for somewhere else to live. You will have to move eventually so might as well start now and move when you chose rather than when he choses.

    Contact Shelter if you are worried or need advice.

    So tell them that their notice is late and if they want you out they can return the deposit and pay you £x,000 for the inconvenience.

    Otherwise you'll stay until June, cheers.

    What a start to the new years hey! Will keep this thread updated with what happens so others in the future can see how it went if they are in similar positions.

    You should have been given notice before 4 months was up, for the 2 months notice to expire on the 6 month period, so it is illegal.
    But
    Think whether you want to stay, what about good references, what about fighting over your deposit.
    You could seek further advice from Shelter or start looking for somewhere else to live.
    The ball is in your court.
    There is also the possibility your deposit hasn't been protected and the PI reissued at the start of each new tenancy agreement (within 30 days).
    There are a few more points for you to ponder, but you really need to decide whether you want to stay or go first, then take it from there.
    If you are staying I would suggest you change the locks.
