DVD discs won't playback but stuff is recorded on them.....

Would be grateful for any help on this one.

Got a Panasonic DVD+RW recorder/player which I use to record from TV. Have TDK DVD+RW discs and while programmes look to record from TV and on initial playback are there and can be viewed on DVD, the disc now won't seem to load on that or any other DVD machine.

Did a test record yesterday with brand new disc and then new disc refused to load on two DVD machines and laptops. Bought last lot of discs from John Lewis as this is driving me nuts. Am I using wrong discs? Both laptops seemed to be claiming discs were blank but had watched some of recording on first one previously. Would be grateful for any thoughts? Thanks!

Are you finalising the discs in the recorder? That probably explains why they are not playing on other gear. Before discs can playback on other equipment you have to finalise them on the recorder that you have done them on, it's in the disc management menu or something like that, check your manual or instruction book. ;)
  • No I didn't......thanks v much will check manual and give it a go....:)

This I would bet. Don't remove the burnt DVD from the recorder or switch it off until its been finalised.

As an experiment you could try putting some of your previous 'failures' in and trying to finalise them. I have had recorders that could close a DVD later on.

It used to be the case that many older CD/DVD players could not play discs that had been recorded at high burn speeds. Perhaps try to cranking the speed down a notch?

I don't think there will be the option for this. It isn't like burning a DVD on a PC.
I would very much agree with the discs not being finalised, as said above.
