Crossing the Canada/US border by bus

We didn't have to pay any charge or fill in any form when we crossed from Canada into USA by car.
We had originally arrived in Seattle (and had the 90 day stamp in our passports from immigration) and had then crossed into Canada by ferry to Victoria so I guess our re-entry into USA was covered by the stamp from immigration at SEA.Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endQuidquid Latine dictum sit altum videtur0 -
I crossed from Canada to the US by car at a city bizarrely named Cornwall. No problem except that the US immigration official on duty had clearly never dealt with a non Canadian before and didn't know what to do. He even smiled, which as seasoned travellers to the US will know is definitely something that is probably a serious breach of the rules ...0

We were on a Titan tour last year, Washington, Niagara and New York. We stayed on the coach on the USA to Canada crossing and got off on the way back, no charge was made either way. No delays on the way over but at least one hour on the way back, we also had the visa waver (ESTA)0

What passport do you hold? I've never been charged crossing one of the land borders between Canada and the US (admittedly, it's been a while) or known anyone from the UK who was. It might be that there are charges for some nationalities?
As someone else said, be prepared for the crossing back into Canada to be the more onerous one. Don't try to bring any fresh food with you across the border (ie chocolates or sweets are probably ok, a piece of fruit or a sandwich with meat/cheese/veg on isn't) as they're very strict about it and I've known people to be delayed and gone over with a fine tooth comb for having a cheese sandwich in their bag.Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0
