Unsure about a credit file update

Options
hi guys, paid of some of a my silly debts from a few years back, 3 of which had defaulted and one was always sitting 6 payments late, i have paid of the 6 payments late one, and 2 defaults, today they updated the late payments, the balance now shows settled, but the status still shows 6 payments late, should this not be showing as satisfactory??, i know in the history of that creditor it will still show the late payments. or have i got this completely wrong

2 defaulted payment which have been paid, haven't updated yet, apparently it takes "50" days

    Hi Malek988,

Good to hear you've been able to get these old debts cleared!

The account with a status of "6" would be considered a delinquent account, but not yet defaulted. Now the account is paid and closed it will be marked as settled, however the late payments will remain recorded to show how the account was run up until it was closed.

As this account gets older it will have less of an impact on your report.

The defaulted accounts will be marked as satisfied to show they have been paid. Most companies update account information monthly with credit reference agencies, this should go through automatically.

A defaulted account stays on the report for 6 years from the default date and then comes off.

It certainly sounds like you've take the steps you need to start improving your report.

    Kind Regards
    Neil

This didn't happen when i checked mine with experian:mad:
The Halifax had changed the start date from the 1/5/2009 to 17/2/2014 which was bizarre to say the least!

There should be Checks in place to stop a company changing the original date or it could be flagged up on a System.

Complain to the company and Experian. Threaten to take both to the FOS and ICO if it's not corrected.

I would really like to help with this one to establish the reason why the dates changed on your defaulted account, I’m sorry in your case after six years the account automatically wasn't removed from your credit report due to the lender changing the default date.

If you could please email me your details (name/dob/full address including postal code) I can take a look at your credit report, if the information has been recorded incorrectly, we would be able to query this directly with the lender.

    Kind Regards

Because Experian let them, and never bother to do the checks they are supposed to do by law on the data.
