I have a problem

I have an HP lap top and an HP 5520 photosmart printer.

I am wanting to scan photos to my lap top and it keeps telling me that the printer cannot connect to the computer and yet when I print its fine from the lap top its fine..

I am wanting to scan photographs onto the computer and then put them on an external hard drive.

Its driving me nuts.

Sound's like a driver issue to me.

You might try re-installing the scanner software (inc driver).

From the manual-

HP provides a Scan Diagnostic Utility (Windows only) that can help solve many common “Unable to scan” issues.

From the Start menu on your computer, click All Programs, and then click HP. Under HP Photosmart 5520 series, click HP Photosmart 5520 series, click the Help button, and then double-click HP Scan Diagnostic Utility.

However, I reckon Peace-Maker has hit the nail on the head

I had a similar issue with an HP scanner a while back. Turned out to be the PC Firewall that would allow sending data to the printer but not accepting it the other way.

Try turning the firewall off and then scanning to rule that out.
