Please help!
I put my car into Arnold Clark for a service and MOT due to expireend of Jan. I get this covered by the ‘Clark Plan’. I am fairly confident thatthe car should’ve passed however I’ve just had a call from the garage sayingthe car would fail because of 2 broken coil springs and needing replacementwiper blades. The cost £300!!!
I am not prepared to pay this as I think this is way overwhat it should be. I have had a look at wiper blades and from Halfords they are£29.99 to buy. The coil springs seem to be about £30 too but can’t be sure as Iam not good with cars.
It’s a Vauxhall Corsa 2009 1.2. Any help or advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

how much labour on top though?0

I doubt they would pick the coil springs if they were trying it on, they are a pig to fit on Corsas if its front, twenty minutes each for rear , so Labour + 2 springs and wipers at 300 is not bad if its front springs.
having a laugh if its the rear
Ask to see where the others are broken and make sure they do actually fit new ones.I do Contracts, all day every day.0 -
I don't necessarily think they are trying it on in- I'm sure they probably do need fixing. What I was quetioning was how much to actually do it.
I phoned arnold clark after as I have found someone willing to do a supply and fit of both parts for £110!!! Now I'm questioning whether that is TOO cheap :S.
Having had a look online the price of the coil springs is abut 80 quid and AC were wanting to charge two hours labour. After saying I was prepared to take my business elsewhere they were prepared to bring down to £216!! How can this be!0 -
They charge arround 60 per hr.
They charge so much cos some people will pay it to save hassle of returning, after works done elsewhere.0 -

Cause they'd rather make some money out of you than no money at all.0 -
They may have allocated a time slot for your vehicle and ordered parts. There maybe a surcharge to return the parts and they not have another job booked in so the fitters will be sitting there drinking coffee for an hour or two.
You giving them some profit is better than a loss.
Wiper blades maybes £29.99 at Halfords, But they are probably only £10 from the actual supplier they use.
Front and rear springs can be bought for less than £12 each. Branded ones not unknown chinese rubbish.
So potentially they made £30 on your springs and £20 on your wipers before they even start work.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
