"We've been watching the significant moves in the international energy market extremely closely for some time, with the aim of helping customers with a price cut at the earliest possible opportunity," said Iain Conn, chief executive of Centrica.

Not difficult when you also have an excavating/wholesale arm.....:p0 -
So they announce a price change 5 weeks in the future. On a decrease they don't need to notify customers, so questions need to be asked why its not with immediate effect.
The main point here is that this just brings them in line with the suppliers who have not announced a decrease yet.0 -
Expect a separate announcement for electricity eventually.
Double dip, double dip, gotta get a double dip.0 -
Well it stops ppl rushing to leave
And also gets £ for the peak winter period0 -
5% cut isnt much and its only a month left of Winter period when people tend to use less0

Right LUDE, 5 % isn't much to be happy and after 1 month people will use less gas. No any much profit for people.0

I currently am on a fixed price dual fuel tariff with Scottish power with contract finishing 27th Feb and am looking with interest at the falling gas prices. Am I best to hold on until nearer that date to change? I will be moved on automatically to their standard tariff which is extortionate after that date0

Methinks that Centrica have looked at the long range weather forecast and are expecting UK temperatures to rise rapidly on 27/2...No free lunch, and no free laptop
