Tesco current account - be prepared for hassle when opening!

I have tried to open one of these accounts, to get the 3% interest. Unfortunately, there has been so much hassle that I have given up. Tesco asked for my ID documents, which I sent, and they returned. They then asked for them again! When I queried this on the telephone they said it was an error! They then wanted me to set up a six digit passcode, but their computer wouldn't accept the number I wanted to use, despite it complying with their security protocols! Interestingly, when I telephoned with a query, it would take a couple of minutes to clear "security", but when I said I wanted to close the account, they did it within moments!

It might be a good account, but be prepared for hassle. I lost patience.

Sorry to hear you had so many difficulties. It seems you are the first one who had all this trouble, plenty of people on here have Tesco current accounts and had no problems opening or running them. Telephone support seems knowledgable, quick, polite and effective.

May be try again when you have recovered from your experience?

Ian - I agree completely i had many issues trying to open my first acccount with them recently. In the end I also gave up completely. There are better options out there.
  • Got to say that whilst the application process was fine - trying to get two C/As, two saving accounts and one (old) credit card on one internet sign in has been impossible.

Still, the interest each month is nice on the C/As and the 'saving' accounts come in handy for the feed for other non Tescos C/A accounts - so cant grumble!

I started my "relationship" with Tesco about 2 years ago with an Internet Saver. Applied online and can't remember how long it took to get the online access but can't recall any problems or long wait.

I have since added, without any problems, another Internet Saver, an Instant Access Saver, 2 current accounts and one credit card - all visible and manageable with the same online login. Although when I go to the credit card details, I can't go back to the other accounts but this isn't a problem as I only use the CC for stoozing.

Their online banking is a bit quirky in some respects but the absolute bees knees in others. Their savings accounts behave like current accounts, so you can do FPs, SOs and DDs and the payee list is shared between all the current and savings accounts, which is brilliant.

Anyone who doesn't crave at least some of this is probably not into multi-accounting and won't miss any of it but those who are know what I mean

    I had no problems.

If the OP wants a real challenge try opening an account with the Clydesdale or Yorkshire bank - its certainly an experience!:D

If the OP wants a real, greater challenge, try closing a Tesco internet saver. ;)

Coincidently, I phoned them (0141 278 7386) and closed my Tesco Internet Saver just this morning. All done within a minute or so. No problems.

However, I do have an issue with their website always saying it doesn't recognise my computer. Really annoying when I have no signal on my mobile. I keep all of their cookies, but that doesn't help.

There must be some cookie(s) you don't keep. I never had a login problem since I kept cookies for

    - login.myproducts.tescobank.com (this one sounds like the potential culprit)
    - tescobank.com
    - https://www.tescobank.com

I keep that one. If I quit my browser (Safari) and relaunch, that cookie is still there, but I get the "computer not recognised" message and have to go through the One Time Passcode (OTP) rigmarole.

Also, the cookie's expiry date is always set to exactly 24 hours after logout and if I don't re-login within that time, I need the OTP again.

I don't delete browser history between launches.

Do you delete flash cookies (although not Safari ones) ?

    /Home Folder/Library/Preferences/Macromedia/Flash Player/#SharedObjects

    and

    /Home Folder/Library/Preferences/Macromedia/Flash Player/macromedia.com/support/flashplayer/sys

The myproducts.tescobank.com flash cookie in each of these 2 folders is crucial for Tesco online banking to remember your Macbook.
