Ebay Etiquette - wrong item sent - how to proceed

I'm new to ebay so unsure of how to proceed. I purchased an item, only £15, but the seller has sent the wrong brand - hence the item is not as described.
I purchased as a guest and paid through paypal. Do I contact them via ebay to say they're sent the wrong brand and try and resolve it this way, or do I put in a claim at the paypal resolution centre.
Many thanks.

Drop the seller a message first and see what they say.0

As above, always contact the seller first. As you used a guest account your other options may be limited anyway.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Thank you. I thought this would be the case.
So is it best to purchase things through ebay rather than as a guest in terms of resolving issues?
Obviously I have an ebay account, I just thought the going through paypal was a payment method rather than a shifting of responsibility!!
I can't quite remember the payment screen, but to buy through ebay do I have to have funds in my ebay account, or can I still buy using my credit card?
Thank you!£2019 in 2019 #44 - 864.06/20190 -
If you paid using a credit card rather your paypal account, you cannot open a case in ebay, but need to raise a case in paypal.
9 times out of 10, it can be sorted with a message through ebay rather than needing to open any formal case.0 -
Message the buyer through ebay and send a photo of the item you received.0

Well that was easy! I emailed the seller and explained that I'd been sent the wrong brand. They apologised and said as they'd have to refund postage I can keep the item as a gift! And they've issued a full refund for the item (Well, the paypal email says I've been refunded but there's nothing on my account to this affect as yet - does this sometimes take a while to show. I'm guessing it goes straight back onto my credit card?)
Thanks for all your advice. Worked out well for me! (although I really did want the other brand this will do for now!)£2019 in 2019 #44 - 864.06/20190 -

Paypal can take up to 30 days to refund a guest payment credit card. Hopefully it will be quicker than that.0
