Sainsbury Saver - slow and unreliable

Sainsbury Internet Saver still not opened for use 18 days after returning identity documents. Rang last night and assured that the account would be running this afternoon. Still not running, rang again and assured would be ok in 48 hours. Do I believe that, no. If you've got money needing a home to earn interest, go to Icesave or Hisave, both more efficient and don't make promises they don't keep.

Set one up in joint names. Account was opened immediately and I got my access code through in just a couple of days. Waited two weeks for my wife's and had to phone to ask what was happening - turns out she needed to register independently, even though her name and details were accepted on the original application. Access code then came through after just a couple more days.

On the plus side, money transferred from Halifax into Sainsburys appeared the next working day - still waiting for money transferred to my Natwest and HSBC current accounts to arrive. It was transferrred minutes later.

I opened one before it became highly popular. Documents were received within 3 days and account activated within 10 days of applying. The delay is down to popularity, a fate suffered by Icesave applications as well initially.

If you set it up as a Transfer to another account with us, the transfer from HBOS to Sainsburys will be instantaneous. Sainsburys to HBOS will be overnight.
