Cancellation charges-aaaaaarrrrgh!

I recently had to cancel a flight with globespan. It's less than a month before the flight so I knew it would be high - in this case 80%. However, when I went on their website to cancel the item it showed 2 cancellation charges. I phoned them and eventually spoke to a human who explained the first was the airline cost, the second the taxes. Hang on, I said, if I don't fly I don't incur the charges. I was told it was their policy of 80% cancellation off everything. This to me seems a con and I wonder if anyone has any ideas as to how I can get all my tax cost ( £47.98) refunded. It's bad enough I'll only get £50 back of the original cost!!
Hope I can get some help from you as the money wil all go back into my wedding fund
Thank you

I would battle it out with them. Also, check to see if your credit card company may help, were the total cost of the flights over £100. If so, you should be able to get help through CC company. Read this article from FT.com

They say that airlines put high admin fees on to put people off claiming, but I would carry on, stick to your guns. Go to the CAB even, they may be able to help also. Good luck, got my fingers crossed you get something back. Don't give up.“Ordinary riches can be stolen, real riches cannot. Sorry tigernymph, but this is all in the terms and conditions.
You are entitled to the taxes back, but the airline can charge an administration fee.
It may not seem like it, but you are lucky, many low cost airlines do not allow refunds, and will charge an administration fee on the tax refund that is more than the actual tax.Gone ... or have I?0 -
I have started by emailing them explaining why I think it's unreasonable, mentioning that I am seeking further advice ( here;) ) and asking what they are going to do to rectify the situation and ending it "thank you in anticipation of your assistance" to encourage them to play nice. We get married 4 weeks tomorrow:kisses3: Hoping I have heard something positive by then, especially as we are flying with the same company on the other 2 tickets we have.
There's no such thing as coincidence, just messages we choose to learn from or ignore along the way0
