Car recalled questiion

I have a Citroen that is off the road as it had some electrical fault that caused the car to stop starting. Had diagnostics but could not get past the ECU.

I have received a letter from Citroen and VOSA saying that my car was recalled in 2011 due to a serious safety issue. Apparemtly a fault with the tailgate harness, which could lead to electrical fault with the tailgate and rear lighting display.

Now my question is could all of the electrical problems I have experienced be connected to this fault? It has been 4 years since the recall was made so is it possible that as it was left so long it caused other faults?

I have only owned the car since 2013 and this is the first I have heard from Citroen regarding any fault - I did speak to my local dealer around 4 months ago regarding all the faults my car was experiencing and asked if any known faults but was told there was not and that it was likely a problem with my fuse box.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

No the tailgate issue wont be linked to the starting issue.

As the recall says. Its the rear lighting and possibly the locking that maybe affected.

This is why i wouldn't spend my own money on a Citroen. If it was under the manufacturers warranty or a company car then no issue. But not my own money.

Electrics are not their strong point and it can take an age to track faults down.

Start off looking for water leaks and wiring that maybe rubbing a hose or similar.

OK thank you. What about the other electrical problems I have experienced?

Just thought maybe it was as others i have spoke to who had the recall experienced all the same problems as me ...numerous warning messages, lights going on and off, window wipers going by themselves, problems with central locking etc....

Anyone else have any further information?

Take it in for the recall. See if the other issues are resolved. Multiplexed electronics in virtually every vaguely modern car can have all sorts of strange and seemingly random side-effects from a fault. Basically, instead of there being one switch, one wire, one bulb - there's a computer controlling everything through much-reduced wiring with network-style signals sent down it.

Unfortunately I can't as due to the problems experienced with electrics it has been sorn and taken of the road. Sometimes it will start but lights/indicators flicker on off and go crazy so do wipers so couldn't safely of legally drive it to the local dealer - which was the main reason for my question as I thought if in some way it was all connected I may be able to get it collected.

After driving it hone one night when they headlights went of completely I decided it was best of not on the road until fixed but when diagnostics was done they couldn't find a problem as couldn't get pass the ECU.

Have you any reason to think that it didn't go in to have the fault fixed when the recall was issued?

I've had a letter from the VOSA stating the repair has never been done.

Locking and lights issues will most likely all be linked to the recall. But the not starting wont be.

What work have you had done to diagnose the non starting? What parts were changed? What happens when it wont start?

    How old is the car?

I'd get the recall work done and then see if this fixes the issue you are having with starting.
The main dealer will hook-up their diagnostics rig and will soon find the issues with starting and advise on the price to fix.
