BT Caller Diplay + DD

Hi folks, first timer here....can anyone tell me how long it takes for caller display to become active on our BT line? We applied about 10 days ago but still doesn't work. Phoned suppport today :eek: and was told to key in *234# but that returns something like service unavailable. Online the privacy service is listed in our account and even trying the automated service in Heinz's thread resulted in a "cannot activate that service" message. It's a new line we have had for only a couple of weeks.
Also we cant seem to set up the direct debit facility - there's a message in red on the payments page that says we are not eligible at this time for DD. Did try asking support but got transferred to a dead end after 20 mins. Any ideas?

  • It should be on by now. As for direct debit then you need to speak to someone regarding that. To be fair the automated service is not the best in the world and although there may be a wait to get through at least its a freephone number.

    Try calling 150, tell them your problem and they should be able to help.
    DO NOT let them transfer you to another department as it is their responsibility.

    I asked for mine a month ago. 1571 was acticated but not caller display. I have given up calling. I can only call at night after tea and start about 6-6.30pm. I get cut off eventually at 8pm. Due to new computer sytem which I am on I have to call the new customer service team and they are nigh on impossible to get,. I have an ongoing issue with BT and have been waiting 4 weeks for someone to deal with a complaint and despite having submitted it online 3 weeks ago as well I am still waitng for the reply within 48 hours!!!
    I have never met a calorie yet I didn't like!!

    Have you tried ordering the caller display online. I order all my products on the bt.com website (registration required) and have had no problems.

    Can I ask what the issue was that you emailed?

    1571 was acticated but not caller display

    Sign up to online account you can still keep paper billing if you want it.

    Then try to enable caller display but remove 1571 unless you want your friends wasting their money.

    I think (BT's websites are ever-changing and so convoluted I could easily be wrong here) the ability to 'remove' 1571 as one of your options is no longer available online. I would imagine that's so you have to phone to cancel - if you have a few hours to spare.
    Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
