I realise that others have mentioned this previously, but I am not able to find anything here that assists with removal of it. Any help please? It's only on a couple of web pages I try and open that this comes up.

This can be one of numerous issues.

Flash player.
Website unavailable.
Browser plugin problem.
Ad blocking software.
Antivirus terminating the connection to the website.
ISP blocking the website.
The list is almost endless.

Try another browser if you can.

Also try pressing the Ctrl key when you press the left mouse button on the link.

about:blank is just what appears in the address bar when the browser displays a blank page. You can't remove it.

The Tab-Mix-Plus add-on for Firefox has an option to suppress the creation of new empty tabs when, say, the browser gets the request to open a file in a new tab when that file type is set to use an external program to open it.

Thank you. It's a site that I use a lot - and this just happened recently. For whatever reason it happens on my desktop and laptop, but I can access on iPad mini. Just wondered if there could be a threat to data. .. Don't want to access anything where personal info is..

Which website is it? You might be accessing it through an outdated bookmark or similar.
