Canadian Affair, flight time changes - warning

Last year we booked flights Gatwick to Halifax,NS using Canadian Affair.Our original flights were travelling out on a Thurs,coming back same day 2weeks later.Having booked these times,we decided to have one week in Toronto,so booked return flights via Air Canada's website,getting low cost non refundable fares.The return leg was due back into Halifax thurs morning,flight back from there to Gatwick was in the afternoon.
Then about 3 weeks before,Canadian Affair phoned to say the DAY of the flights had changed to Wednesday.
This meant the return leg of our internal flight was usless,so I told them this and they said,why don't we change your return flight to Gatwick to one departing from Toronto?
Idiot that I am,I did'nt realise you could fly to one airport with them and depart from another.So we changed to a Saturday flight home,giving us 2 extra days in Toronto.
Then while on holiday we realised the return flight was with My Travel,29" leg room seats,compaired to 35" with Thomas Cook.
So we phoned Canadian Affair from Niagara Falls,asking if we could upgrade our seats.No problem,but at a cost of £128 for the 2 of us.
Oh well,we thought,and enjoyed the upgrade on the way home.
Then a month or so later,the CC bill landed on the doormat.
The £128 had been CREDITED to the account,not debited.It was never put right,meaning our flights to Canada and back with a return upgrade cost us £133 each.
