Royal Mail Signed For

Just wondered whether anyone else has foolishly paid for Royal Mail Signed For service only to find that RM does not " provide you with confirmation of delivery". I guess I should be happy the item wasn't lost in the post, but my contact with RM suggested to me they have no intention of providing the service paid for.
When I checked the online tracking service it indicted the correct day I paid for the service, but was last updated 5 hours before I posted the item! It still says the same... I contacted RM and they were seemingly earnest, and claimed:
Royal Mail Signed For mail travels with ordinary mail and is only tracked once delivery has been attempted so I regret that I am unable to confirm the whereabouts of your item at this time.
The item was delivered as standard 1st class, not signed for as the advertised service.

Do you mean that the person receiving it did not have to sign for it?0

It's difficult to work out what's happened here.
You've paid for a service that means your package will need to be signed for and you should be able to see when it's been delivered. You won't get full tracking prior to delivery.
Are you saying no one had to sign for your item? Or are you saying that the online service doesn't say that it's been delivered even when it has?"Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -

What RM are saying, and they are right, signed for is sent with all the other mail, the only difference between it and 1st class is that it gets signed for at the point of delivery.
You can then track this signature online once complete.
You seem to be implying that signed for should give you tracking at every stage of the process?0 -
OP mentions being provided with confirmation of delivery. Which RM have not in this case.
This should happen with Signed For but doesn't always, as you have now found out.
Good news is if you wait the appropriate amount of days, put in a claim form with an attached note saying you want the SF fee back (there isn't a box to tick for that) you'll more than likely get 6x1st class stamps back as compensation.
Occasionally when I have claimed for this they have found a proof of delivery which hasn't for some reason gone online. But more often than not I get the stamps.0 -
Signed for is a very poor service, it s covered on the sticky thread about postage on the eBay board, in many cases it never shows as signed for nor does it get signed for.
However, as KxMx says you can claim the £1.10 back if the online status doesn't update to delivered.
It is standard mail just like normal 1st or 2nd class, it's only advantage is a higher rate of insurance against loss or damage for eligible items.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Compensation for the fact that they failed to get proof of delivery that the OP payed for0 -
You can claim a refund of the fee paid for signed for if it was not done not exactly compensation.

You get the £1.10 back for failing to get a signature. However it takes time to do a claim and submit all the paperwork (keeping copies are essential) so you do need to justify whether it is worth it for £1.10.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
