Allianz - comprehensive policy has no 3rd part cover alert

Hi,

I am not sure if this will help anyone.
Recently, I looked at fully comp quotes for my Corsa. I signed up online with Allianz as they were the best deal.
When I printed the policy off, I found that there was no 3rd part car insurance. In over 30 years of driving, it has always been included in the policy.
I contacted Allianz who said that when people phone them, they tell them specifically that the comp cover does not include 3rd party. However, online, there is no such warning, it just keeps asking you if you have access /want cover for other cars.
I have now got the extra cover and written a letter of complaint to them and had a reply yesterday. They are not upholding the complaint and said I can complain to the ombudsman.

Please check your policies carefully and ensure you have the cover if you want it.
Thankfully I checked!

    No need to scour policies.

Your certificate shows your cover and doesn't require "careful" checking to find out what cover you have.

What do you mean by "Third party"? Third party means the person you hit, and they're covered by ALL car insurance - that's the bit that's a legal requirement.

If you mean "Driving other cars", that's become increasingly rare over the last few years, and if it's important to you, you really do need to make sure it's included before buying. You can't complain after buying, solely because you didn't check beforehand.

Was that on the Allianz website itself?

I presume they want to drive other cars on their policy under 3rd party cover. But its not included.

Are you over 25? Did you specifically ask for DOC when taking out the policy?

Cancel and pay the fees and go elsewhere?

A lot of comp policiies now no longer include TP cover for driving other vehicles. More often than not it's now an optional extra.

OP, I'm not sure what you have to complain about. It's up to you to check what cover you're getting BEFORE taking out the policy. If not happy then you can of course cancel and go with another insurer.

It's worth checking if the third party car has to be insured by someone else at the same time or not for your own policy to cover it while you are driving. I've always checked when renewing if it's covered or not just due to the fact I get through a lot of cars and not all are always insured by the owner when I want a test drive.
  • I'm with Allianz and have the drive other cars clause, but the policy was taken out through a broker.

Companies tend to offer wider cover through brokers than their direct products as brokers tend to sell cover based on cover/service where as the direct arms rely on price so tend to strip cover back so they come up high on comparison sites
