IMO you're being anal - who is going to challenge anything? Only HMRC, for the IHT, and they are not going to worry about the saucepans or the microwave.There is no reason really to do this apart from her need to be getting on with something, and I fear that it will make it very hard for me to demonstrate appropriate securing of the estate, were it to be challenged. Am I being anal about this - or should we really just leave the place secured, as is for the moment? (Notwithstanding certain valuables, which have been removed for safekeeping elsewhere).
We asked a local auction house for a valuation of household goods, and soon they're coming to take what they're willing to sell. I was keen that everyone should get something they'd like, and at least having had the valuation we know there's nothing hugely valuable. You could set up a spreadsheet for anything which leaves the house and where it goes.
