It's anybody's guess whether the Euro will go further down or up again sometime or ever, so it's your decision whether and when to transfer your money.

You will pay less in fees and get better exchange rates by using a currency transfer service rather than banks. You would still need a Euro account to have the inheritance paid into in the first instance.

Thanks for that. Who do I set a Euro account up with?

Or search the forum if you want a belgian bank - I seem to recall many moons ago somebody mentioned a belgian bank. I wouldn't see much of a difference though as Euro is Euro, and the protection you get is €100K with any of them.

Thanks Archi, It doesn't have to be a Belgian bank as such if any will do. I need a bank that a Belgian solicitor can pay funds in to rather than them paying directly into my UK account for obvious reasons. I have no knowledge what so ever with banks abroad. Is there any bank that springs to mind that I could use?

  • ING Luxembourg will allow to open a bank account in Euro for non-residents. Officially the UK is not on the list of eligible countries, but if you contact them in advance they might arrange an exemption. Beware: they are not really good at communication and they don't know the meaning of the word sorry:

I believe DKB is the only german one you can open without physically going to Germany. http://banks-germany.com/open-dkb-euro-bank-account-for-non-residents
No it isn't, you can open an account with Comdirect without going to Germany and the experience is 100x better, DKB is quite bad IMO.

All I could find on the Comdirect website was a document that said you need to provide your application via PostIdent - which means you need to physically be in Germany to apply.

May be I didn't look in the right place - have you got a link to the application form/process in english, and which explains how I apply without PostIdent?
