I've been offered a job in retail, but I'm kind of fed up with retail work.

Hey guys I've been offered a retail job after I've been volunteering for a while now. I sent out many applications for various work and a couple of weeks back I had an interview with a company and yesterday I get a letter saying they would like to hire me. The thing is, I am a little disappointed as i have become fed up with retail work.
I think I should accept it, but I would like to try some kind of office work if possible for variety. I have always worked in some form of customer service/retail and I would like to do something different. I always seem to find myself in this type of work and it's frustrating. I think I'm worried about going into something different in case I'm not good at it.
It may sound bad, but dealing with people annoys me, especially in customer service. I don't know what to do. It probably sounds very spoilt to have a job offer and not want it when other people are without jobs, but I just want to do something different as we only have one life and doing the same stuff is tedious and life shortening.
I know I whine a lot, but my psyche is very volatile and I get bored easily. On top of this I really don't know what I want to do, so it's a big cauldron of indecisiveness in my head. I hate coming on here to whine but it's the only place i can release my thoughts

ok I get sucked into replying.
Take the job and relieve the boredom by taking up an exciting hobby.
For someone who moans about being bored as much you do, you don't seem very proactive in dealing with it.
Oh and if you think retail is boring then I've got news for you - office work tends to be like groundhog day0 -
Perhaps you will find getting another job easier once in employment?
I work in an office and make the coffee! either that or pen pushing, time drags
Congrats on the job offer

Take the job but carry on looking for office jobs that you want?0

If you already have a job, turn it down and start applying for things you would like to do/ gain new skills/ qualifications in order to get where you want to be.
If you don't already have a job, accept the job and then do the above.Proud to be debt free September 2014. :j

I don't really moan about being bored, just frustrated at not knowing what I want to do. When I put my mind to something I'm very tunnel vision but I haven't had those ideas for a long time. I feel like I'm too old for everything I want to pursue now. In some ways I blame myself, but I can't help being cursed with mental health problems that have lasted years and left me unmotivated and lacking direction, and insecure at times as well as lacking the confidence.
And it's not that you can sucked into replying. It's good that you reply and I appreciate it a lot. Almost everyone here thinks I'm a WUM now, so I can't really rectify that now. However, everything about my mental health is true. I think the repetitiveness of my posts may lead people to think I'm a WUM, but I don't know why I keep hoping for different answers.0 -
doing something is better than doing nothing for a living. After you have been long term unemployed, like you, an employer needs to see you are capable of sticking to a routine, even if it isn't fun.
Turn this down and you'll basically be saying you are unemployable.2021 GC £1365.71/ £24000 -

I would have thought time would go quicker because you're always doing something. In office work you either do stuff on the computer, e.g. typing a lot of information or filling out forms etc.0 -

But experience is the best thing, so if I did gain qualifications in an area of expertise that would be beneficial for office work, I would get hired without office experience? I understand everyone has to start somewhere, but employers seem very unmovable in regards to an employee's work experience, so gaining experience in a certain job is tough because no one will employ you if you've no experience. It is frustrating when you know you have the ability for the job.0 -
