Tesco Bank - paying in cheques via post

When posting a cheque to Tesco Bank in the post do you need to fill out a bank giro credit slip in the back of the cheque book to accompany this? It states that you need to on their website FAQ's, but I just queried this with their customer services who said you can just send the cheque with your account number and sort code on the back?

Not sure why you'd have felt the need to question something published in writing on their website but having done so and received a contradictory answer, would you now rely on the word of random strangers on the internet?! Even if customer services advisors could be trusted to know definitive answers to questions like this about their products (and that's a huge 'if'), it seems a no-brainer to err on the side of caution and follow the written procedure, why would you not take the few seconds to do this?
