Stoopid thermostat question....

Options
Thermostat in domestic house, gas condensing boiler, trv's on rads, immersion in tank.

What does the thermostat connect to? Guessing the boiler, power supply, but anything else?

New thermostat fitted yesterday, but it doesn't seem to control boiler, just keeps heating the boiler, but rads taking ages (hours) to get to temp.

Any help/advice great fully received!

  • Depending on your system, the thermostat will either connect directly to the boiler or it will connect to a valve which in turn connects to the boiler and commands it (the boiler) to fire when open. Why did you have a new thermostat fitted? If it's not working, you need to get the installer back and get him to correct the installation. Or maybe there is another fault.

Agree with that. Its not working properly. Get the person back who fitted it.

You are a little light on detail about what boiler and what thermostat. The Thermostat controls the boiler, either directly or indirectly via the diverter valve and I am perplexed that you say the boiler is on, but not heating the radiators. You definitely need him back as if nothing else he did not test it properly and did not instruct you how to use it properly either, or possibly set it up correctly if its a programmable unit.

Some have two lives one to the boiler one to the valve and that stumps many a heating engineer.
I do Contracts, all day every day.
  • Yep, impossible to diagnose remotely esp. if you have older style set-up with HW tank.

I'd expect the roomstat to connect into wiring block.
  • Ok, we had a Tado smart thermostat fitted yesterday, but suspected old thermostat wasn't working (new home) and probably hadn't been for some time (previous post about rads not heating). The Tado should heat and cut out the heating, to maintain constant temp, but last night, despite going into night mode, it kept on heating and we had to turn the controller off.

Two lives and a calve might explain things. Maybe the valve is frozen? Time to check...
  • On a side note, anyone have/know about Tado or smart systems?
