Can't buy in UK - so where else?

I've been to bulgaria several times. I would say if you wanted to live their perhaps buy something. Cost of living is cheap, you can probably live ok on a few grand a year.
In terms of property growth returns I'd say perhaps you've missed the boat by 2-3 years.
Lots of old/run down houses are cheap in the countryside because of people moving/working in the cities and tourist areas. Even if these £5k houses rise at 10% a year thats not much profit in 5 years.
I like bulgaria it's good value for money, people friendly, but as an investment not so sure0 -
What a great position to be in! You have *no* debt and are saving! How many other people do you know that are in that position? Enjoy, keep up the saving and revel in the fact that you wake up every morning debt free. :j
I think I understand where he is comming from. Being debt free is ok but wont get you anywhere.
He wants to add substantial value to his net worth in order to increase his finanicial independance.
As an example I bought a villa in Saidia Morocco. Only £34000 paid so far and Im a year in. The next £34000 due soon.
Balance of £100,000 in 2009 / 10.
Once built I anticipate a value of about £400,000 given the facilities and marina are the biggest and best in the Med (once complete in 2010) and owners get to use all the facilities, often for free and the Government have passed strict laws to ensure year round rent - all fully managed and hassle free even down to they mow your lawn.
So I part with £64000 for 3 years, then at the last minute £100,000 more and I make a capital gain of £232000.
I wont sell though as the rent will be I think around £25000 pa (remember this is a year round resort with incomparable facilities, nothing in Spain comes even close)0 -
Sadly if you are that desperate to own a home I can only suggest moving to an area in which house prices have stopped rapidly increasing such as the midlands. I know in my area most couples could afford a two bed flat in a decent suburban area (if both work).
I personally don't think buying abroad as an investment is at all ethical, however if that is the way you want to go I'd research, research, research and go out to a few places before making any rash decisions.£4000 challenge
Currently leftover - £3872.150 -

"Mrs. Pench, you've won the car contest, would you like a triumph spitfire or 3000 in cash?" He smiled.
Mrs. Pench took the money. "What will you do with it all? Not that it's any of my business," he giggled.
"I think I'll become an alcoholic," said Betty.0 -

If I had a hot girl in a corset to please me, I wouldn't be posting here so much."Mrs. Pench, you've won the car contest, would you like a triumph spitfire or 3000 in cash?" He smiled.
