Replacement Radiator

Options
I'm having a radiator that is rusted and has had a small leak for the past five years replaced in a bedroom, which is 1280x610, would it be better to replace it with a 1200x600 radiator or an 1000x600 radiator like the plumber speced?

Also the price to fit including the cost of the radiator is £160 does this sound about right?

He has said that he will either get a stelrad or kudox radiator.

  • I would happily pay £160 for a new rad, fitted.

Just me saying so, I am not an expert!

Depends on the type of Radiator, i.e. single or double convector etc. which effects the heat output.

It is a single radiator. The room is quite a warm room anyway it was 17 degrees this morning when it was -1 outside.

I did use the b&q btu calc and it came back with a radiator under 3000 btus so the smaller radiator would suffice i guess really.

I just have trouble making decisions lol.

  • Either size would be ok. Rad will be about 50 quid probably be about 2 hours work to remove old, refit brackets, fix new rad, top up system, bleed, so yes, 160 quid sounds fair.

2 hours? Sounds too much to me. I managed the same job recently in around an hour and I'm not even a plumber.
  • Try getting another quote. Can do no harm.

I've just had a radiator replaced and I was charged £80, I bought the radiator myself for £20 (it was a small one!).
