All balances wrong back to October - just a matter of presentation! There was a data corruption of a neat amount, £1500 (btw was it exactly or just approx?). It looks like a corruption of a base amount on which all forward going balances are calculated.

Yes, a presentation error. The bank confirmed that everything was okay behind the scenes.

When you log in to online banking you don't see the raw data held by the bank. Instead, it is presented in a customer friendly format.

Now think, supposing there had been a £15 reduction of balance rather than £1500. You'd never, ever have noticed it.

I certainly would have noticed it.

Unauthorised transactions and a mysterious credit have appeared on my statements in the past and I have noticed them.

You appear to be making a lot of unfounded assumptions.

I definitely would have noticed it - I would notice even a penny's difference as my bank transactions are mirrored in MS Money. I would query a penny's difference with the bank in question, too.

I would notice discrepancies within a couple of days at most since I do check my accounts most mornings. Even if I checked less frequently, there would be no logical explanation for why I wouldn't notice unless it's £15 or some other minimum amount.

I am too busy to track with a separate money program and don't retain paper statements any more. This thread has made me rethink, I will have to take an image of my statement every few months.

If this was a widespread problem, I'm sure we would have heard about it before now.

In fact most media love to slate the banks, so they'd have been rubbing their hands in glee at this story.

Therefore, we can only assume that the problem affected a tiny amount of customers..... Maybe it was just you.

Therefore, you wanted the bank to shut down their Internet banking two days before Christmas for a problem that was affecting you and maybe a few other people. Yes, you are over reacting.

Hmm I wonder how many of those posting in this thread are willing to own up they work in banking or similar and in what role?

I work in financial IT so tend to see things from a different point of view from customer services people.

Exactly what point are you trying to make?
